Integrity Engine

Assessments and interviews you can trust, and candidates can too

The Integrity Engine collects consented signals during proctored stages, turns them into evidence and hands every case to a person. It never infers emotion, never rejects anyone on its own and always tells candidates what happened and how to appeal.

Ground rules

What the engine will never do

These rules are part of the product, not settings: they hold for every workspace and every stage.
  • No emotion AI

Nothing infers emotion, stress, facial expressions or deception.
  • No automatic outcomes

No automatic rejection, termination or score change from integrity signals. Candidates see calm notices, never warning counts.
  • A person decides

Every adverse outcome needs a person, and escalated cases need two different reviewers.
  • Biometrics are optional

A separate biometric release, off by default, and a non-biometric alternative every time.
  • Scores stay separate

Integrity never changes a competency score. Reviewers and recruiters see both, side by side.
  • No AI-text detectors

We do not guess whether text was written by AI. Each test sets its own AI-use policy instead.

How a session works

From consent to a decision a person can explain

  1. Consent first

Before a proctored stage the candidate sees the AI disclosure, the AI-use policy and the notice, can request accommodations and can choose the optional biometric release.

You decide: The candidate gives consent and chooses the release

  2. Signals on the device

Faces, head pose, objects such as phones and notes, voice activity and browser events are computed in the browser. Only per-second numbers are sent, never a video or audio stream; short clips are kept only around flagged moments.
  3. Evidence, not verdicts

A deterministic fusion step turns signals into a level. Each signal gets an honest allowance first, weak signals alone never move a session past Clear, and Escalate needs two signal families to agree or a serious event that a server or provider can verify.

    Who: Proctoring Analyst

  4. A person reviews

Reviewers see the reasons, the known innocent explanations, a timeline, the clips and the separate competency score. If two reviewers disagree, the outcome is Re-verify, never the more adverse one.

You decide: Cleared, re-verify or confirmed, with notes

  5. Notice and appeal

The candidate gets the outcome with reasons in plain language and next steps, and can appeal once. A reviewer who took no part in the decision handles the appeal.

You decide: The appeal, by a different reviewer

Every session ends at one of four levels. Review cases need one reviewer and Escalate cases need two.

  1. Clear
  2. Note
  3. Review
  4. Escalate

Signals

What the engine looks at, and what it never collects

Each signal comes with a plain-language reason and its known innocent explanations, so a reviewer weighs evidence instead of a score.
  • Faces and head pose

How many faces are in view, time without a face or with more than one, and time with the head turned away.
  • Objects and devices

Phones and notes in view, suspected virtual cameras and camera or microphone changes. Device details are hashed on the device.
  • Voice

Voice activity and a second voice, which only ever corroborates other signals.
  • Browser

Lost focus, hidden tabs, leaving full screen and more than one monitor.
  • Typing and clipboard

Typing rhythm and paste events, but never the keys pressed or the text pasted.
  • Second camera

At the Enhanced level, a phone joins through a one-time QR link and looks for people, phones and notes, without sound.
  • Follow-up questions

In interviews and coding tests, short questions about the candidate’s own answers and code. They are extra, unscored and never tricks.
  • Camera-free option

A candidate can take the stage without a camera. Every camera signal and biometric check is then switched off.

Identity and accommodations

Checks that never lock anyone out

  • Identity checks with a person behind them

Identity verification and liveness checks work with supported providers once you connect your account. Without a provider, or when the candidate does not give the biometric release, a person checks a photo ID or runs a supervised re-check instead. The identity step never blocks the test.
  • Accommodations

Candidates can ask for extra time, a screen reader, a scribe or support person, or the camera-free option, and individual signals can count less or be switched off. Nobody is blocked because of their browser.
  • Where it applies

AI interviews, assessments, coding assessments, async video interviews, and pre-screening when the job turns proctoring on. Workspaces set the check level per stage; practice interviews are never proctored.
  • Kept only as long as needed

Retention is set per workspace. Clips from sessions with nothing to review are deleted within a week, and nothing is deleted while an appeal is open.

Questions

Integrity questions

No. Signals become evidence for a person. Integrity outcomes sit on the legal floor, so a person always decides, and escalated cases need two reviewers. Nothing rejects, ends or re-scores a session automatically.
